Coventry 6th September 2008

When we arrived at Coventry stadium I could not belive it, it looked as if we had driven into the sea. It looked virtually impossible to run the meeting from the water in the car park. But earlier that day there was a track inspection and at 12.50 it was definately on. When we got into the stadium there were not as many puddles as I thought there would be. The first race (Rebels World Final) was very hard to follow as they all looked the same once they were covered in shale.  Well done to number 17, Lee Cooke, the new World Champion.

After that race it stoped raining, and after a couple of F1 races the track dried up well giving some good racing. The final was won by 21, Mark Gilbank.

I would like to say thank you to Matt Storer for giving me 11 trophies given to him by drivers when he was young.

Peter York gave me an old microphone and an speedway bib belonging to Simon Wigg (England captain) who sadly passed away in November 2000.

I also would like to say thank you to Sophie from the Rebels for giving me a special Rebels World Final Mug.

I will take great care of all these gifts. Thanks to everybody!!!!

Sheffield Sunday 31st August 2008

If you had never been to the stock cars before and you were looking forward to seeing all the paint jobs you would have been sadly disappointed.  All you could see was brown cars sliding past, to be honest they could have been anybody.  However, the cars on track did the best they could in such awful conditions. It started as a boating lake and quickly transformed into a mud bath as the rain continued to come down.

Well done to all drivers taking part, especially in the finals, the F1 Final being won by 515, Frankie Wainman. The track seemed to cope pretty well with the conditions, however it was felt best to cancel the last two races for health and safety reasons.

Mr Starter, or at least I think it was Mr Starter, looked like he had been rolling around on the track and all his flags and lap boards looked the same, brown.

Cowdenbeath Saturday 30th August 2008

The Formula 2's were a bit of a disappointment as there were not many cars and very little contact.  Gordon Moodie won all the races he was in.

The Saloons were the other end of the spectrum, there was lots of crashing and bashing.  Surprisingly there was not as much action in the World Final as I had expected.  Well done to Shane Brown, 720, for becoming the new World Champion.  The meeting was being filmed for Sky television.

It was nice to see Richard Kaleta doing the infield commentary, as well as the starting for two races.

Final Winners Table

With 40 meetings completed and 19 remaining things are tight at the top of the final winners table. Andy Smith is currently top with 7 UK final wins but right on his tale are Frankie Wainman with 6 final wins and Stuart Smith with 5.

Andy Smith has recorded all his final wins on tarmac whilst brother Stuart's wins have all come on shale.

A total of 21 drivers have won a final in 2008 to date with 7 drivers picking up more than one win.

Belle Vue Monday 25th August 2008

Belle Vue was another successful meeting with plenty of action, thrills and spills.  The only down side was that Tony (Mr Starter) did not have any working headphones so could not hear the commentary, therefore he had to rely on me and James a bit to know when it was half way through each race.

There seemed to be a good turn out of cars in all formula (Formula 1, Formula 2, Bangers and Heritage).  The final of the Formula 1's was won by number 1, Stuart Smith.  Andy Smith, 391, only did a couple of laps in his heat then he loaded up as he had a problem with his car.

Skegness 23rd August 2008

The Semi at Skegness was probably one of the best I have ever seen. The leaders were changing constantly until the last couple of laps.

The full result for semi was - 391, 515, 305, 53, 21, 218, 8, 12, 212, 507

I felt sorry for Tom Harris who made sure no one settled for second during the race but went out in the final few laps. At least Tom got a race, Dan Johnson had car problems just before the start which meant he did not take part.

All the races were absolutely spectacular. If you were wondering who won the V8 World it was 131 Kevin Stuchbury who retained his title.

There was one problem - it finished a bit late as we did not leave the track until just after midnight !!!!!!!

Warneton (Belgium) 17th August 2008

The racing was fast again today but there was not as much action, this may be because it rained occasionally.  Frankie Wainman (515) appeared to be the fastest British F1 driver, unfortunately he had a mechanical problem in the World Cup Race so he did not finish.

The Formula 1 World Cup was won by H22 Louw Wobbes and the F2 World Cup was won by Gordon Moodie, number 7.  Congratulations to both drivers.

The results for the F1 World Cup are : H22, H8, H247, 21, H57, H12, 391, 55, H16, H399.

Stuart Smith (1) did not race today due to engine problems which allowed Craig Utley (484) to race.

Frankie Wainman Junior completed his weekends racing by wining the 4 Nations Cup.

Warneton (Belgium) 16th August 2008

This meeting was a great sucess with 10 British drivers and one from New Zealand.  1, 21, 55, 84, 105, 152, 212, 391, 462, 515 and NZ 58. H247 was also in attendance. Craig Utley was not allowed to race as he had not booked in. The Formula 1's ran a 2/3rds format.

Heat 1 - British entrants - 1, 21, 55, 84, 105, 152, 515, (H247, NZ58).

Result - B67, H482, 515, H8, H217, 1, 152, 21, H7 & H6.

Heat 2 - British entrants - 21, 84, 212, 391, 515.

Result - H8, H57, 21, 515, H22, 391, H16, H12, 84 & H482.

Heat 3 - British entrants - 1, 55, 105, 152, 212, 391, 462, (H247, NZ58).

Results - H399, H12, H6, 55, 1, H22, H57, 152, H217 & H669.

Final - British entrants - 1, 21, 55, 84, 105, 152, 212, 391, 515.

Results - H12, H16, H399, H8, H67, 515, H6, H482, 391 & H007.

The racing was fast and hard, it looked like a lot of pay-back as some cars went into the fence quite hard.  37 cars were in attendance (10 plus H247 were British drivers).

Frankie Wainman (515) seemed to be on the pace with the best of the Dutch drivers, although the results don't necessarily show this.  In the final Andy Smith (391) was on the second row of the reds, H217 was only a few rows behind, and eventually Frankie, Stuart (1) and Mark (21) brought up the rear.

Gordon Moodie (Formula 2) won all three heats he was in as well as the final.

That's it for today as it is time to go out and party.

Back home in the UK

I hear Frankie Wainman has been winning finals again at Northampton and Buxton.  Well done Frankie. This brings his UK Final total to 6, just one behind Andy Smith.

Looking forward to seeing all the British drivers in Holland, and the spectators.  We were in Venlo at the weekend, it was much quieter than normal. We were the only people in the Chinese restaurant, they were expecting to be busy next weekend.  It was also very quiet in the Long Bar.

Sint Maarten 10th August 2008

It had rained heavily before we arrived at the track, when we got there it was really windy but once inside the track we were sheltered by the trees and it was lovely and sunny.  The wind did a good job of drying out the track.  The track staff had covered the turns in black plastic to stop them getting too wet.  When they took the the plastic off a few cars were sent out to drive round to try to compact the track, or take of the top layer to make racing better.  One car ended up in the ditch (which is in place of a fence with water in the bottom, luckily not too deep) while doing this.

The Formula 1's ran 9 heats and a final.  As the meeting went on there were more dips in the track than smooth bits which made the cars look like spring rabbits as they went round, bouncing all over the place as they came round the bends.  Quite often the cars had all 4 wheels off the track.  There were quite a few roll-overs in all the races, and quite a few visited the ditch, which went down well with the crowd.

The last race was a real stock car race with close action right up to the finish line.  H26, H3, H32 and H12 were fighting it out in the last few laps but H12 got a flat tyre.  This left the other 3 cars to fight it out for the line, quite literally.  H26 finally got to the line 1st.  It was an epic race which will be hard to beat.

All this for 8 euros for mum and dad and 2 euros for me. (28 races in  all).

Posterholt 9th August 2008

Another new track off the list to visit.  A good track, the only thing I was a bit unsure about was the lack of catch fencing. If you stand by the fence you feel like you could touch the cars as they went past. There were 9 formula of cars, including F2,s, each formula having 2 races each.  H24 won the first heat and H36 won the second.  All formula put on a good show, the racing was fast and action packed.

Warton 3rd August 2008

At Warton there were 27 cars and they did all in races. The Final was won by number 60.

I would like to thank the starter (Paul Naylor) for letting me do the 2 Heats and Final for both the Senior Minis and the Reliant Robins, I really enjoyed it.

Cowdenbeath 2nd August 2008

The racing was excellent which meant there were a lot of yellow flags, as well as some re-starts.

Semi Final 1

In the first Semi there were 28 cars. There was 1 restart and 4 yellow flags. After the fourth yellow flag they had lost 17 cars (including the defending World Champion, 152 Mick Sworder) which left just 11 cars running, and only 10 cars finished the race. The 10 qualifyers were.......   401, 339, 667, 511, 676, 968, 70, 172, 903, 656 (656 looked like he had no steering at the end).

Semi Final 2

In the second Semi 28 cars started. There was carnage before the green flag went down which lead to the cars being sent off for repairs so then they put on 2 other races. On the second time going there was 1 restart and 3 yellow flags. I am not sure how many cars finished this race but there were more than the first Semi. The top ten were 7, 657, 38, 888, 744, 606, 60, 854,103 and 641.

Overall this was a good meeting, the Saloons were very entertaining, can't wait to go to their World Final.

Skegness Thursday 31st July 2008

Firstly I would like to thank 259 Paul Hines and 305 Carlos Perez for letting me help promote the sport by giving out leaflets and sticky bugs. Then I went to the track in Paul Hines bus (thanks Paul), after he let me steer the car into the bus.

It was dry and sunny through the day but when we got to the stadium it was a different story as it rained neally all night!!!!!!!!!!!!

That did not stop the great racing with 2 Heats, Final and Grand National. These races were all in as there were only 23 cars.  When I say there were only 23 cars this does not mean the racing was poor, far from it. All the drivers put on a good show for the holiday makers.

302 had a good night and so did Frankie. 302 won H2 and Final. 515 won H1 and Grand National.

Skegness Thursday 31st July 2008

If you are in Skegness on Thursday why not pop along to the shopping centre where there will be stock cars belonging Paul Hines (and Carlos Perez I think).  I will be helping them give out leaflets promoting the racing that night.  Come along and say hello, I would love to see you.

Kings Lynn 26th July 2008

The meeting was a great success apart from when 231, Mark Peters, went in hard in the Grand National.  The meeting was abandoned (as it was the last race of the night) and the emergency services had to be called.  The latest news is that he has fractured a vertebrae, hope you feel better soon Mark.

Congratulations to Paul Harrison, number 2, for winning the Semi Final race after clouting Stuart Smith on the last bend.  Paul managed to catch Stuart as he was slowing down due to a flat tyre.  The first ten to cross the line in the Semi were

2, 1, 16, 259, 97, 33, 107, 288, 55, 260.

The meeting Final was won by Craig Finnikin, his first Final win of 2008, well done Craig.

Although the day was warm and sunny the track staff managed to keep the dust down, however, it was a late finish and we did not leave until 11.10pm, meaing we did not get home until after 1.30am.

Apologies

We apologise that we have not updated as quick as usual. We are having computer problems. Dad is getting a new laptop this week so we should be alright within the next few days.

Northampton 19th + 20th July 2008

What 2 great meetings it was last weekend.

I would like to start off by thanking Dean Wood, Incarace and Rebels for letting me do two Rebel races over the weekend on the stand, I did the whole race by myself. I really enjoyed it!

Thanks to KJG Photography for supplying the photos

www.kjgphotography.co.uk

The racing was great over the weekend.

On Saturday the Final was won by 391, Andrew Smith.

On Sunday the European Championship was won by a young future star, number 4 Dan Johnson. Well done Dan!!!!

In the Internations Cup H482 took the win.

In the European Andy Smith ended up in the wall, thanks to Frankie Wainman. A few laps later Stuart Smith went flying through the air after coming together with Joe Booth (number 446), both had to visit the first aid post, but luckily both seemed to be ok.  What a weekend!

UK Final Winners

After Skegness on 13th July 2008, 30 meetings have been completed and 16 drivers have won a UK meeting final to date. Of those 16 drivers 7 have won more than 1 meeting final with Andy Smith clearly in the lead with 6 final wins to his credit.

World Cup 2008

This years World Cup for Formula 1 and 2 stock cars will be held on 16th & 17th August at Warneton, Belgium.

Apologies

I am sorry there has been no pictures added lately. Dad's computer is currently on the blink. Normal service will be resumed as soon as possible.

Also I will not be at Skegness next weekend, Mum and Dad say there is a lot to catch up on at home so we need to have a weekend off.  We have been away all weekend, every weekend, since May.  I am not happy about this but will be back for the Northampton weekend.

Warneton 5th & 6th July 2008

Warneton on Saturday was the warm up day. The racing was still all right, well average, compared to the racing on Sunday.

The meeting on Saturday started at 2pm, and rained most of the time. There were only 11 F1s for the practice day.  The only "British" driver was H247, Gary Castell.

Sunday's meeting started a bit earlier, at 10.30am.

Out of the ten drivers booked to race, only 5 were there, and Chris Fort (number 3) blew his engine in practice so could not race. The Brit drivers were 21, 212, 515 and H247 (who is registered as a Dutch driver).

In Heat 1 there were 16 cars, B67 won and Frankie came 5th.

In Heat 2 there were 16 cars, B67 won and Frankie came 2nd.

There were 14 cars in the Final which was won by H399, Frankie came 7th and  Mark Gilbank took 8th.

The Internations Cup saw 13 cars on the grid (at this point it started to rain, but only for a couple of minutes). H22 won, Frankie came 2nd, Gary Castell came 3rd and Mark Gilbank came 5th.

It was then a mad dash to the Channel Tunnel for our journey home, arriving back at midnight.

Buxton 29th June 2008

Another great meeting with maybe a few too many formulas on.

Anyway the racing made up for that even in the wet conditions.

The F1s had 4 straight races, 2 Heats, a Final and a Grand National.  Andy Smith won his 6th final of the year, all of them being on tarmac.

Although I was not at Northampton I still had the results.  I would like to congratulate Joe Booth for his first race win in a Formula 1, this was only his third meeting.  He also had a 2nd and 5th place in his other races.

Millennium Stadium 28th June 2008

The stadium is really good and the atmosphere was electric.  There were flags flying everywhere, horns blowing and great music for the racing.  As the bikes rode onto the track there were two big fire boxes which looked great, they also had similar things lit when the winner crossed the finish line.  I couldn't believe it when the first nine races were completed within one hour, not like Stock Car racing.  The speedway was great but Stock Cars are still my favourites.

Millennium Stadium

Just in case anybody wonders where I am on Saturday 28th June (Northampton meeting), I am visiting another new track, this time for the speedway.  I am going to the Millennium Stadium in Cardiff for the Grand Prix meeting.  See you at Buxton on Sunday.

Hednesford 22nd June 2008

The last World Qualifying Round for the season and a good one to say the least.

The Mini's, V8's and the F2's were good support Formulas.

The racing was great with Carlos Perez (305) winning the first heat but failing weighing so taken out of the results.  However, he won the consolation and passed weighing.

In the Minis there was a big crash on the back straight with lots of bashing and crashing. Everyone was ok.

Andy Smith won the fast and furious Final but did not come out for the Grand National???????????

Ipswich 21st June 2008

An epic meeting at Ipswich.

The racing was good, especially for 441John Lawn, he won his heat,  came 2nd in the Final and won the Grand National (first ever GN win)

As well as the good racing there was a big scary crash, 22 Will Yarrow caught a car on the home straight, his throttle stuck open and he went flying over the grass. Luckily he got it sideways and slammed into the wall. He got out fine but I bet he was a bit sore the day after, hope you are feeling better Will.

I think we have another good racer on our hands as 446 Joe Booth (former National Champion in the
